This wonderful wiring diagram by Porsche Cars is more than reminiscent of Harry Beck’s London Underground diagram! Indeed electric diagrams inspired Beck’s design back in 1933. Produced as a visual aid for Porsche technicians, the colourful and pictorial design goes beyond utility, its a work of art.
The Porsche 356 B was the second major revision of Porsche’s first production automobile, manufactured between 1959 and 1963. Defining a design philosophy of lightweight agility and functional beauty that remains the company's DNA today. Designed by Ferry Porsche and brought to life by Erwin Komenda, the 356 featured a streamlined, aerodynamic silhouette and a rear-mounted, air-cooled flat-four engine. Powered by a 1.6-litre air-cooled flat-four engine, with variants ranging from the base 60 hp model to the high-performance Super 90 and the rare Carrera 2.The success of the 356 was cemented through both commercial popularity—with over 76,000 units produced between 1948 and 1965—and immediate dominance in motorsport, including a class win at Le Mans in 1951. By prioritizing balanced handling over raw power, the 356 proved that a small, efficient sports car could outperform much larger rivals, laying the essential groundwork for the legendary 911.
