Phantom of the Opera Plaster Head Cast - Ramin Karimloo (2006)
Phantom of the Opera Head Cast - Ramin Karimloo, Her Majesty’s Theatre London (2006)
Designed and produced by the Chris Tucker Studio. Solid plaster head cast marked “Ramin Karimloo 2006” and “RAH 2011”. Measures approximately 38cm / 15” in height. Complete with latex prosthetic. Used for the London production of Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty’s Theatre.
Possibly the most unusual thing we have for sale!
This unsettling head cast was produced by Christopher Tucker and his studio for one of the best Phantoms to play the role, Ramin Karimloo (Har Majesty’s Theatre, London 2006-2009). Dated 2006, this cast was produced when Ramin Karimloo was the ‘stand-by’ Phantom, shadowing Earl Carpenter - Ramin took over the role of Phantom in September 2007. His success in the role lead to him being cast for the 25th anniversary performance at the Royal Albert Hall in 2011 - for which the cast was reused (“RAH 2011” marking).
Christopher Tucker (23 March 1941 – 14 December 2022) was a British make-up artist for theatre and film. He specialized in the creation of prosthetic make-up for horror films. Among his notable works were the make-up effects for The Elephant Man, The Company of Wolves, and the stage musical The Phantom of the Opera. He devised the original make up for Michael Crawford alongside with Maria Bjornson for the original 1986 London production.
Tanya Noor (Make-up artist for Ramin Karimloo) explains…”Chris begins by taking a head cast then he sculpts the deformity onto the head, and then makes the foam latex pieces from it. The head cast, complete with the applied pieces, is then supplied to Bob Saunders who makes the mask to fit over the cast and prosthetics.”
There are some good behind the scenes videos on youtube showing Tucker working on Ramin’s make-up for the 25th anniversary concert: https://youtu.be/9KDjlfmOT14?si=7FYcvgaQ579xTVwX
