This wonderful poster design for BOAC (British Overseas Airways Corporation) features a wood signpost upon which the iconic speedbird logo is being used like a pair of compasses drawing a circle around the globe. Whilst we can’t attribute an artist, the design is tantalisingly similar in both style and message of a series of official posters by Tom Eckersley and Beverley Pick, the “Its a small world by Speedbird” series of 1947.
Imperial Airways was merged with British Airways in 1939 to form BOAC who would also adopt the Imperial airways 'speedbird' logo. It was in the late 1940s that 'British Overseas Airways Corporation' made a strong marketing effort to rebrand as ‘BOAC’ commissioning a series of posters heavily branded with the speedbird logo and presenting itself as a global airline.
