"Baker Street" - 33" Enamel London Underground platform roundel sign

3-piece vitreous enamel sign in original bronze frame. Mounted on a thick wood back-board. Measures 84cm x 69cm (33" x 27") and weighs approximately 10kg. Condition: Wonderful in-situ condition. Some minor scratches here and there.

This beautiful sign from an iconic station in its original bronze frame would have been displayed on platforms and is likely to date from between 1960s-1970s. It is a rare and unusual size, most commonly produced in 50" format. 

Baker Street was immortalised in Arthur Conan Doyle's ‘Sherlock Holmes’, who lived at 221B Baker Street. Baker Street Underground station was among the earliest Underground stations in London, opening in 1863 on the first branch of The Metropolitan Railway. Today is now serves 5 different lines on the network (Metropolitan, Bakerloo, Jubilee, Circle, Hammersmith & City).
