MIND THE GAP
Acrylic stencil. Measures 150cm x 29cm. Unused.
This wonderful large stencil was produced by a railway services company contracted to undertake maintenance on the London Underground. This included refreshing the yellow ‘MIND THE GAP’ warnings on the platforms. The company has ceased trading and this sign was obtained through a clearance of their premises.
Now one of the most iconic phrases associated with London, it was first introduced on the London Underground in 1968. Because some platforms on the London Underground are curved, and the rolling stock that use them are straight, an unsafe gap is created when a train stops at a curved platform.
